If there is a switch that turns the ideas part of your brain off when you're supposed to be in leisure time, then mine is broken. To be honest I enjoy it this way as a thought can hot you at any moment and if it's a good one then it may lead somewhere. Most ideas come to me while I am out and about so this is why I always carry a notebook and pen otherwise it will be forgotten. Once again I was hit with something that I am seriously considering as a project for next year. As you may gather from the above picture, I was at the fair today and it was walking around after a couple of cups of peas that I took proper notice of the range of food on offer. My eating at the fair is usually confined to burgers, hot dogs and of course the iconic mushy peas and at first I was dismissive of some of the food at Goose Fair as I didn't consider it 'fairground' enough. Obviously society evolves, especially where food is concerned (I remember when a small glass of orange juice was considered a starter and Chinese restaurants sold steak and chips as an option for people who didn't fancy foreign food) so I begrudgingly concur that there must be a demand for crepes or noodles at a travelling fair. The diverse selection of food on offer these days is what gave me the idea, and I think it could be possible.
In a slight tip of the hat to the Morgan Spurlock's 2004 documentary film Supersize Me, I started to wonder if it was possible (or even wise) to only eat at Goose Fair during its five day opening. On day one I would probably do a walk around to check out what exactly is available and make some kind of map. If there is a stall doing breakfast items like bacon cobs then I should be okay, but I would eat my three meals and any snacks exclusively purchased from the fair. As with Supersize Me I might incorporate a visit to the doctor to see how I am getting along and take a cholesterol test before and after, although for all I know there might be some perfectly healthy options on offer to counter the grease, there was a stall selling fruit and veg as if they had turned up in the wrong location looking for a market so it might not be such a suicidal mission after all.
But how to fund such an experiment and produce a short documentary film afterwards that I would share with the world online for free? See that PayPal button at the top of the blog page...?
