Me showing no sign of first night nerves
Today is the fourth anniversary of the first broadcast of The Sunday Alternative, which is obviously the first thing people think of when you mention the date September 11th to them. Of course it does sometimes cause confusion so I always ask them to clarify the year and if they say 2011 then I know I am on safe ground. I AM JOKING OF COURSE. There are people who need that statement in big letters, no doubt these people are the reason there is a 'Do Not Eat' warning on those silicon packs you get in new shoes and bags, because without the help they endanger themselves.
I have chosen not to make a big deal about this year's anniversary because I want to save myself for next year as it will be more significant. Five years is more of a celebration and I have the added joy of September 11th next year is a Sunday. I still haven't given up on the idea of making a documentary about the show and its development into a brand, but as always it is down to finance whether or not it happens, which is a good time to point you in the direction of the PayPal button. It would be great to be able to make something to mark the occasion and have talking head contributions from people involved in the music business and my old co-presenters. Tying it in with an event such as a screening and a gig with some of the bands who played on the radio version with old co-presenters as comperes is another option.
Although the name The Sunday Alternative was born on the Trent Sound show, the roots can be traced back to the show I did on Sherwood Radio. They are embarrassing to listen to because I was, by my own admission, shit. To prove how shit I was, and to show that I am a good sport about it, the archive of shows is available to listen to from here. It might take a while for your buttocks to unclench though, you have been warned.
The Sunday Alternative #55 is available from here.
