Although I wanted to spend today catching up on admin and writing I ended up spending the whole day once again recording this week's podcast. I hadn't had time during the week to get the music together so I spent a large amount of time listening to new music which of course is one of my favourite things to do but I do try and get this part of the job done during the week. The bulk of the work involved in making the podcast is listening to EVERY song and album I get sent before deciding what to play. Before I have listened to each new song I keep them in my email inbox for storage and either download them into a 'keeper' folder or delete them on hearing. Release dates are also an important factor as I don't want to play something too far in advance because that won't help the artist given the fairly disposable nature of a weekly half hour blast of pre-release songs, so something due for release a couple of months down the line will be forgotten about. I am also careful to not play anything too old, although I won't delete something just because it is older than the podcast, there is one PR company that send stuff that was released months ago and that isn't really the way I want to do it.
Once I have listened and made notes I gather all the appropriate website address (or Facebook pages) to enable me to hyper-link to everyone in the track listing, and make sure that the podcast account is following them on Twitter in preparation for my big advertising blast on Sunday morning. It's a shame that it took me so long to do it because I wanted to start work on the Nottingham music podcast I am going to release as my Christmas special this year but that will have to wait for another time.
Having neglected the box set binges for a while, we watched a couple of episodes of Jeeves and Wooster as I wound down from what might not seem like a busy and tiring working day.
The Sunday Alternative #52 is available from here.

August housekeeping
We are now in the eighth month of the year and at a standstill as far as work is concerned. In unrelated news, it is my birthday on the 27th of this month so a nice present would be a donation using the PayPal button. This would be spent on creating podcasts, documentaries, short films, comedy sketches and various other entertainments that I will make available to enjoy online for free.
The above t-shirt and bag is also available to buy, all the money goes to the same creative fund. They are on my shop page.
I'll play you a kazoo song request, find out how here.
Letter of complaint written for you for £2, here.
