When I had to take a little break from the podcast I was worried that the wheels would fall off after all of the work I had put in. The numbers were down for the first couple of shows once I started again but thanks to my persistence I am now achieving higher figures than ever and I frankly can't believe it either. The very first podcast only scored about 80 listens but I am now settled around the 2000 mark drifting between 1500 and 2100 which is something I am happy with. There are two peaks from what I can see, Sunday of course has the main surge (the podcast is called The Sunday Alternative after all) with a steady climb during the week until the following Saturday. I have started tweeting the link again on Saturday as displayed here:
This week's podcast is being recorded now, in the meantime if you missed last week's...

Of course I tag the artists into the tweet in the hope that they will share it, which doesn't quite work as well on Saturday as it does on Sunday. However as Tesco says, every little helps. Deep down I am aware that this might be the reason why the podcast Twitter account doesn't have a great deal of followers. I only use it on Sunday and Saturday and only for podcast promotion, posting one tweet for each artist I have played that week with their photo. They (and possibly the PR company or record label) are also tagged in the tweet, the lack of followers being understandable thanks to this activity but it is ultimately worth it because I am doing it for the retweets. Oddly enough this seems to work which is great because this helps the traffic on the Sunday lunchtime initial dropping of the recording. My only wish is that more people donated towards the cause because I could expand the name even further and of course get started on other things that I will put on the Internet for free. It's better than the TV Licence after all.
