Fighting Evil Is Cool
The line up for the next gig is now set in stone with another arse kicker of a line up for August 9th at The Maze. This might go against what I said yesterday slightly about wanting to give new bands a break but I want to get the gig off the ground before I can afford to be too experimental. As long as this takes to get off the ground I am going to stick with it because I am confident that it will grow, especially with the series tie-in once that gets going.
Opening proceedings will be singer/songwriter Simon Waldram (below) who I first worked with in January 2014 on the radio version of the show. We had never met prior to this session (he came recommended by my former co-pilot Penny) yet we immediately hit it off and started conversing as if we had known each other for years. He might have been unsuccessful in his quest to release a different project every month of 2014 but he still knocks everyone into a cocked hat when it comes to releasing material. Take a look at his Bandcamp page, while all the other musicians are sitting around flipping playing cards into a top hat he is turning it out at a rate that some artists never manage during an entire career. The Sherwins are a band I have neither met nor worked with, yet I am looking forward to working with them and seeing them live. They're a fairly new one on me to be totally honest, having connected through Twitter and playing them on my podcast.
I have combed through my logbooks for the shows and podcasts and it transpires that I have not worked with The Spangle Corps when I was sure they had played on one of my radio shows. This means that they are finally flying into my web next month and I'm really pleased to have them along as they are immensely talented but underrated around Nottingham and rarely get a mention by those people who pretend to give a shit about local music. The singer Vincent was one of the first people to publicly agree with me when I threw this little spanner in the works, something I am very grateful for. Fighting Evil Is Cool appeared on the radio show in 2012 to do an acoustic set which although brilliant didn't showcase their full range. Having them on is a scoop, especially on a personal level as it has been a while since I last saw them.
The moral of today's blog is simple, get along to The Maze on August 9th or else you will regret missing out on this amazing event. It is only £3 to get in and none of that money goes in my pocket, it is shared out equally between the artists because I don't pay in exposure or experience.
