I wish people on social media would mention
the weather a little bit because there was absolutely no reference made last
night to the fact that it was snowing, if I hadn’t looked out of my window then
I’d have been none the wiser. It wasn’t that late at night so people would have
still had their computers switched on, so the only conclusion I can arrive at
is that nobody looked out of the window or ventured outside last night. We
noticed, we were the only people to notice that it was snowing because not one
person reported it on Facebook or Twitter. While it was still coming down I
took Jack to the park to see how he would react. He was seven years old when we
adopted him but we don’t know if he has any experience of snow, or if he has
then we weren’t sure if he would remember. I wrapped up and took him to the
park and he loved it. At least I think he loved it, he was running around like
a lunatic so either he was excited or he couldn’t stand to put his feet on the
ground. Usually he doesn’t like getting wet especially his feet, he walks
around puddles, but he seemed to be having a ball. I took a couple of
photographs to put on Facebook because I wanted to be the first and only person
who thought to upload photographs of snow for the benefit of other people.
We stayed out for quite a while although I was
glad to be back indoors in the warm. Mandi came with us for a walk around the
block in the snow a few hours later, but as far as I am concerned that is my
lot. Snow is a nice thing to look at, not to be outside in. I’ve taken a couple
of photographs so I know what it looks like so as far as I am concerned the
snow can melt as I have had my white Christmas one day late. At least by going
out this late at night we didn’t have to endure children chucking snowballs
around.
Last night we watched Mickey’s
Christmas Carol on a VHS that I dug out. I can’t remember seeing
this before although I must have watched it as a child, this particular video
came from a charity shop and I probably bought it during the summer and put it
away. At just over half an hour long, this is a very abridged telling of the
story with hardly any consideration given to the words that Charles Dickens
wrote. Despite this I feel that Dickens would approve of this version as it
provides children with the perfect opportunity to experience the story for the
first time. The Muppets version is good but probably too long for small
children, and a little scary in places, so with this cartoon you can sit your
little one down and teach them the story of A Christmas Carol.
