I'm the one on the right.

I haven't written a breakfast review for a while because I it isn't too often that we go out on a Saturday just lately. Saturday tends to be a working day for me more often than not as I record the podcast (my efficient system of recording well in advance has gone down the river) and catch up on writing and stuff. Also, for some strange reason I haven't been inundated with offers to write breakfast reviews for money by any print (or online) publications. True to their policy of ignoring me, both the Nottingham Post and Leftlion had carried features relating to breakfast and not bothered to get in touch. There was a vague plan to make a phone camera video series where I secretly filmed in cafes and offered an opinion, but I never got round to it.

Today though, we went out for breakfast to a cafe in Sherwood called Cafe Chino. The big Santa behind me in the above picture had an annoying sensor that prompted him to sing a quick burst of something festive when somebody got too close. Smooth Radio was playing a reasonably inoffensive selection and the place was packed, maybe a little too packed and the tables were too close together so you were nearly sitting next door to a stranger. Food wise though, no complaints at all.

Mandi always likes to have something different so had an American breakfast of two pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs and orange juice. I had a large (by their standards) breakfast consisting of two rashers, two sausages, two hash browns, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes (because you should never have to choose) and toast washed down the only way possible, with a nice big mug of tea. The whole thing only came to £13.50.

The staff were friendly and the service was excellent, but I could have done with fewer customers in at once. I suppose they are catering for demand and it is good that they are popular but when someone gets up to put her child in a pushchair and I almost get a face full of arse (and not in a good way) maybe it is time to ask yourself if you could do with taking a few tables out for everyone's comfort.
