I regularly retweet local news articles using the hashtag #lostmynumber, in which I point out articles that I should have been either asked to write or asked to contribute to. Such is the local media blackout towards me that stories about local music is one such thing that the Nottingham Post seem to write by asking the opinions of people who don't really know anything about it. Leftlion are another culprit, although they don't seem to know about my existence at all. There are things almost every time I open the paper that I could have been involved with and also when I watch Inside Out, the local BBC1 current affairs show. They once turned down a pitch for a short film for their show because it was too light-hearted for a serious show. This is the programme that keeps local joke Al Needham in work turning something down for not being weighty enough for them.
The subject of Goose Fair is something that I am surprised to have not been asked to write about, (I personally think I would make a good weekly columnist but that's none of my business), especially as I am such a vocal champion of the event. Of course they do have a regular food critic who calls himself the Food Sleuth and this weekend he was at Goose Fair to sample some of the culinary highlights. I'm not knocking this man as a food critic but he could have done a better job of writing about the food at Goose Fair, or rather I could have done. It appears that he only went for a hot-dog and churros and of course a pot of mushy peas. It was his reference to a 'squirt' of mint sauce that gave him away, you do not squirt mint sauce, you ladle it on from the bowl on the counter. What is apparent is that he, the Food Sleuth, went to the wrong mushy pea stall. It beats me why people go to the other ones to be honest, but from this article you get the impression that Goose Fair has very little to offer in the way of food. This has made me a little keener to do my proposed film about living on nothing but fairground food for the duration of the fair next year.
The article is here.
