Just when you thought that 2016 couldn't get any worse, along comes the news that we are heading into a possible shortage of Marmite. Actually this is not the case and I assume that the newspapers just wanted to distract us from all the really bad shit that's going on. Why they chose to use Marmite as the figurehead of this story is beyond me, as Marmite is a product that we can well do without and you can make your own replacement just by collecting dog shit and spreading it on toast. It is actually the result of an argument between Tesco and Unilever after Unilever wanted a 10% pay increase following a falling value of the pound. It wasn't until I realised that this involves PG Tips that I started to worry, then I realised that this is just about Tesco, a store I rarely use. After this I realised that the whole thing had been resolved far sooner than the media coverage managed to drag it out for. All in all, this was a nothing story that epitomises the concept of 'negative marketing', a concept designed to kick start interest in something that was doing pretty well without help. Every kitchen cupboard in the country has an unfinished jar of Marmite in it, which constitutes a lifetime supply so there's really nothing to worry about.

I am far more concerned that in today's papers there are interviews with childrens' entertainers condemning the current scary clown situation and how this is having an effect on their livelihood because children are associating clowns with horror. There was even a story in today's Nottingham Post, which proves that they really were having a low news day today. I have started formulating an idea to bring the clowns back into public favour, (I have already written about this) but I think there might be a mountain to climb as some people are unwilling to accept that clowns are nice, lovable entertainers. Of course I know that there is a genuine of phobia of clowns and I sympathise with sufferers because it means that they will never be able to go to the circus.
