I took time out from Goose Fair last night to go to a gig that wasn't on the radar of The Hockley Gazette so therefore was full of nice people there to enjoy themselves. The Sumac Centre is a place that needs to be seen to be believed, and I walked past it initially, having never been there before. It is a big old Victorian building that was once either two big houses or a hotel in its early life and now holds gigs and performances all done in aid of charity. The whole operation has a big heart and although I don't know much about it to talk about at length, what I can do is direct you to the website. Last night was a live music and poetry event and sadly I missed out on the set by Misk Hills Mountain Rambler due to the billing on the poster being all arse about face. I know you should support the support acts but I just didn't manage to get there in time. I wasn't familiar with some of the performers, and to be honest some of it wasn't my cup of tea, but the overall night was a nice one. The admission price is whatever you want it to be, and they serve food early doors with a suggested donation of £3.50, but you can pay more if you want to offset someone who can't afford it. When I was younger I went through a period of homelessness and I imagine that had I turned up here I would have been looked after with the bonus that I wouldn't be sucked into a cult.
Headlining the night was Attila the Stockbroker who I had never seen before and he put on a brilliant show. The organisers managed to get him to perform as part of a season of shows under the We Shall Overcome umbrella. It is a venue I would definitely go to again.
This afternoon I went round another circuit of the Forest Recreation ground and filmed another walkabout video that will be labelled and archived in a box until I am dead. There's a bit more of the fair assembled and with better weather there seemed to be more people out working to get it ready. Referring to what I wrote about yesterday about the old films showing another world over one hundred years ago, several members of the public appeared in the video simply by walking past and giving me a funny look. By the time the film is shown they will be dead, and so will you.
