The Christmas album is all finished and ready for action, today I recorded the final four tracks in a blast of top notch kazoo playing. Actually, I recorded them in the order they appear on the album, not that the order has any significance but I wrote a list of Christmas songs to record this year (I wrote the list on the 17th April, that's how the entertainment industry works) and just recorded one at a time. I can see from my notes in red on the list that I left a gap between the first two songs and picking up from track three. The first two songs on the album were recorded on July 14th yet track three and four dropped on September 3rd. I only recorded one track apiece on September 5th and 6th and today recorded four. I have absolutely no idea how that timing or sequencing came about but that is how it happened, and if you don't believe me...
If nothing else you can't accuse me of having no attention to detail. Not being able to remember if I was earlier or later than last year when I recorded the first album, I had a search through my archived notebooks and found the same list but for last year. It seems I wrote the list in July but really left it to the wire with regards recording, only recording one track in September and the rest in November and December.
I had forgotten about that coding system I used last year, why didn't I do that again? Anyway, December is far too late to be on this kind of mission so at least this year I am prepared.
One of the saddest realisations about Christmas wasn't when I found out there wasn't really a Santa (I was 15) but when I found out that Christmas television shows and other entertainments are filmed in the summer. I'm not sure if I believed as a child that all telly was live, but I suppose I felt sorry for the people who had to pretend. In recent years this has been sent up with a level of awareness (the Last of the Summer Wine episode 'A Merry Heatwave' portrayed this) and now with entertainers tweeting Santa and snow pictures in May the cover is well and truly blown.
