Did nobody understand? I despair I really do sometimes. The crowdfunding campaign to raise two thousand pounds to make a vinyl LP of last year's kazoo Christmas album was obviously not all that it seemed. As funny as that would have been to do, if people had paid attention then they would have grasped the concept that I was trying to achieve. It was never about making an LP, it was about raising the funds I need for YOUR benefit. The Sunday Alternative podcast comes out every week for free, and I don't get paid for doing it either. Is that not worthy of a donation towards a bigger picture? The Random Saturday Sessions also comes out for free, and we do it for love. To be honest I didn't really need to raise two grand. The whole reason for using Indie GoGo was because they let you keep every penny you raise, unlike Kickstarter that requires you to hit your target or it is game over.
Five hundred pounds would have been enough to produce an admittedly low budget pilot for Saturday Breakfast. With a bot more I could also have at least started the long awaited comedy drama about the old Woolworth's mascots Woolly and Worth. There's all kinds of documentary ideas, comedy sketches and other items that can be made reasonably cheaply but not by cutting corners that I can put online for everyone to enjoy. My box of abandoned ideas could be opened and things that I have potentially drawn a line under have new life breathed into them.
With regards the campaign to raise the two thousand pounds, I am disappointed that this wasn't taken up to the point that it didn't even get off the starting blocks. This I believe is down to people simply reading the subject header and deciding that a kazoo Christmas LP should never happen. Maybe they have a point, that depends on your opinion of the kazoo as a musical instrument. If these people had bothered to watch the video they would have grasped that I was trying to do something far bigger and more worthwhile.
