It has been a bad couple of days for bacon with the recent news reports that it causes cancer along with sausages and other such 'processed' meats. I attempted to find something that might have proved this to be true beyond all doubt but didn't get any further than the above Google page that seemed to want to blame bacon for everything that could go wrong with you. Yesterday I read that bacon, hot dogs, jerky, corned beef and salami are all as bad as smoking when it comes to your health. I also read a report that said that bacon is not as bad as smoking, so I don't really know what the hell to believe. I personally don't tend to bother paying too much attention to these worries because they change so often, I'm waiting for the day they find out that smoking is good for you after all and should be encouraged.

Having read further I don't feel as if I should worry too much because I limit my bacon intake to Saturdays when I tend to have a full English breakfast at a cafe or a fried bacon and/or egg sandwich at home. Also on a Friday as a treat on the way to work but that's it. I also might have it on another day so that's only three times a week. Unless I have it on another occasion then it will be four times, so I'm not worried because it's probably bollocks. Once upon a time they said that red meat was good for you as a source of protein before changing their mind and saying that it was bad for you as apparently it stays in your colon for ten years, as Dennis Leary once said, 'good, I paid for it I want it in my ass'. He probably stole the line from Bill Hicks of course. My consolation is the fact that I don't drink a lot of alcohol unless I do drink when I will have real ale or Guinness which are both good for you.

Jamie Oliver (no relation) is currently waging war on sugar which in my opinion he has gone too far with because we are having our choice taken away from us. If they take sugar out of things they tend to replace it with artificial sweetener, and artificial sweetener causes all sorts of problems. One idea is to make sugary treats more expensive which is a good idea in theory but punishes everybody at once and I for one tend to like Mars Bars, even if they haven't been deep fried.
