This year I have had one of my one man disagreements with the way that Nottingham conducts itself, this time with the timing of the opening of Goose Fair. Traditionally it took place on the first Thursday of October and ran until Saturday night and in recent years has extended to start on Wednesday and finish on Sunday night. During this time it has still started on the first Wednesday in October with the official Lord Mayor's opening taking place on Thursday afternoon, (they're cutting it fine in inviting me to accept a medal for saving the integrity of the (the) mushy pea stall but there's time yet I suppose, it's just that I'll want to buy a new suit). This year it begins on Wednesday 30th September which to my mind is wrong, although it does mean that the official opening does take place on the first Thursday of October. Technically they are opening it at the right time but one the other hand it still seems a bit too early for me; on this particular issue Nottingham Council and I will have to agree to disagree. On the plus side, it means we don't have to wait so long for our mushy pea fix this year, which I'm sure will be a relief to the entire population of this city.

Today there were only a few odds and ends of fairground when I went along to take photographs but it is interesting so see how the event grows. The park and ride for the Forest tram stop is still open for now so they can't bring in the big stuff yet but they drag a few lorries along just to get everyone's excitement levels growing.
