Packing to go away is always a last minute thing with me for some reason because the rest of my life is ruled by making plans and writing to-do lists, so tonight the suitcase was on the bed while I tried to decide what was going in. We're only going for a couple of nights and I end up taking far too much with me, if I went for a year long round the world cruise I would take enough clothes for one year and a month, just to be on the safe side. This isn't a holiday, we're going to a wedding of two of Mandi's friends and although I am not looking forward to it I am glad to be going away for a few days to take a break from work pressures. Aside from the day job at a solicitors I am fretting about the Hockley Hustle and the Maze gigs on top of organising The Random Saturday Sessions next 'tour' and trying to find the time to record several podcasts and audio books by the end of the year. Hopefully next year will be all about film making and live music so holidays will be off the menu because I consider next year to be my last chance in many ways.
As it's a wedding I packed my suit and a choice of two shirts and one tie, my posh shoes, underwear and socks, and more than enough t-shirts, jumpers and jeans. When not in my wedding suit I will be wearing trainers and I am relying on the hotel having an iron I can borrow. Mandi didn't pack as many clothes as I did but she will need her hair dryer and straighteners, make up and toiletries. To make things more annoying I use a different shampoo and conditioner so that's four bottles in the case, and shower gel. In the pocket of the case I have put my notebook and diary with a pen, and in the morning I will need to pack my deodorant, our toothpaste and toothbrushes, and our various chargers for phones, MP3 players, my portable WI-Fi hub, and my camera and batteries.
The whole lot went in one suitcase thanks to some clever packing, I use to be a postman you know.
