For a change of scenery I decided as the weather was nice to take Jack for a walk around Vernon Park this afternoon. The gates remain open so obviously I was mindful of the fact that there might be other dogs on the park and that Jack's behaviour isn't great. However I noticed no other dogs so took a risk and let go of his lead and let him walk freely. I didn't take his lead off though, and he stayed close enough to me so I could step on the lead if needed, as he doesn't go to this park very often he was more interested in sniffing around and pissing his presence as a message to other dogs. There weren't a lot of people out which I thought was a little odd for a school holiday, although I was pleased in a way as it gave Jack no opportunity to show off his hooligan tendencies. Walking anti-clockwise around the park I took control of his lead once again so we could walk past the duck pond with no trouble. He barked and tried to get at them of course, but the geese were not having any of it and started hissing at us. At first I didn't know why they were so agitated until I saw that two babies were toddling around at the shore.
I finally got round to tackling the script for Moonage Daydream today, maybe my intention to do four episodes this year are a bit ambitious but this is a project that I do want to get through. Part of the problem is that they take so long to do but I am at least getting on with it. The next podcast will pick up where I left off in 1974, with Bowie making a new start post-Ziggy Stardust and touring Diamond Dogs before changing direction altogether and embracing soul music. Not a great deal of footage exists from these subjects although there is the documentary Cracked Actor and music and interviews available thanks to the appearance on The Dick Cavett Show so the source material is there. To say that I haven't had chance to record a proper episode since 2013 I realise that this particular project might take some time to complete given that I am only in 1974 and Bowie's career is a long and varied one that will take a few years to tell the story. Maybe when he took his seven year break between his last live performance in 2006 and the release of 'Where Are We Now' in 2013 he was thinking ahead to a future podcast about his life and career. That proves what a visionary he was considering that he was apparently using email in the 1980s and released the first download single in 1996 (when it would have no doubt taken weeks to download using dial-up and some arse would pick up the phone to make a call just as you had nearly completed the task), he not only predicted podcasts but was savvy enough to know that there would be one dedicated to him. Clever man.
