The meeting about a proper full blown grown up documentary film was cancelled due to child care issues this evening, not mine obviously. We made a loose rescheduling which meant that I had a free evening in which to record the podcast although I didn't actually do this as after a few bottles of Bombardier with dinner I couldn't be arsed. Even though today ends a four day week it seems to have been rather hectic, especially today as the laid back 'hide and skive' element of Friday afternoon at Crown Court was ruined by having a shit load of work to do with the added insult that there wasn't a single manager in the building to witness it.
Gary posted on Facebook to say he was getting rid of an antique gramophone player and asked if anyone wanted it so of course I said yes. I looked at the picture he posted on my phone so it looked smaller and I imagined it would look like a conventional gramophone. My main intention was to use it to recreate the famous Francis Barraud painting His Master's Voice with Jack in the place of Nipper the dog. However as soon as Gary opened his van door I realised this wasn't going to happen because this was a bigger model. It is a beautiful model though and now stands in our dining room as illustrated above with a bunch of flowers placed on it when I wasn't looking.
I had already decided not to go out tonight and although I was a bit miffed with myself for not recording the podcast I had a wonderfully relaxed evening doing nothing apart from watching Eastenders with beer and pizza and silently wishing I wasn't so lazily enjoying myself. What sort of workaholic am I supposed to be anyway? Maybe I'm losing interest in my own career apart from the podcast which is the only successful element of my work to date and that if I am watching telly and generally learning to unwind then I am telling myself to pack it all in and concentrate on what I am good at. Or maybe the laziness won't last and a short break from working will give me the creative boost I need to come back revitalised and raring to go; after all I was at my most creative after I left my wife after not being able to do anything career related during an oppressive marriage in which I couldn't even leave the house. Hopefully I will pull my finger out soon and get on with it because I'm already behind by 38 years.
