Picture from I + Like Blog

Last night I decided to record the podcast to give me plenty of chance to iron out any kinks before the weekend and therefore avoid any stressful situations from occuring. I'm glad I had the foresight to do this because there were more kinks than I could ever have imagined so I didn't get round to recording at all, hopefully now that I have done a disc clean and Fraggle Rock on my poor elderly podcast computer I will be able to get it recorded on Friday evening. Ideally I should take a day off work and record as many episodes as possible but I know it would end up being a disastrous waste of a day with things going wrong at every opportunity.

I know I might mention this quite a lot, and there is a page on this blog-site devoted to abandoned projects and stolen ideas which I feel very strongly about because I don't think it is right that someone else takes the credit for your idea and leaves you without payment or thanks, mainly payment - you can stick your thanks. If you're going to steal an idea for financial gain then it would be polite to give the originator something; when Broadway cinema ripped off my Bad Film Club idea it seemed to be quite successful (they turned the idea down because it wouldn't work) so they should have given me a cut. If it wasn't financially successful but nonetheless popular then I would have accepted something in the way of a gift for my troubles - free cinema tickets for a year for example. Other ideas have not, I imagine, been huge money spinners but I still received no acknowledgement. Leftlion told me that the idea of a compilation cassette featuring Nottingham artists was a none starter, which is why I was surprised to see them releasing a compilation cassette featuring Nottingham artists for the last Cassette Store Day. If I remember rightly this was a charity tape so I wouldn't expect to profit from it, but would it have hurt to make public the gratitude they owe me?

For some time now I have been occasionally writing in my blog about cafes I visit for breakfast as a sort of review. I started doing this for the same reason I started writing a daily blog to begin with, to test myself as a writer. Stepping out from reviewing live music and comedy to write the occasional theatre review was another way of testing my ability, so I gave myself another challenge by writing about food. I know this isn't Michael Winner doing a food column for The Sunday Times, but I proved to myself that I have the capability to act as a food writer even if it is just on my blog. Whenever I tweeted about breakfast reviews I always hint at my availability as a food writer specialising in breakfast. Setting up the AudioBoom account was a further step in that direction once I could afford the time in my workload to not have to work on Saturday, but now the whole thing is probably going to be for nothing. I recently posted a photo on my blog of a page in Leftlion detailing a list of cafes that do the best breakfasts, and today they posted on their Facebook page asking for comments regarding the best places to go. It might be that they aren't going anywhere with this and were just trying something new, but on their food page the usual column about grotty takeaways has finished so are they looking for a new angle? If this is the case then why am I not being asked? Leftlion follow me on Twitter so they could have come across my breakfast themed writing and realised it was a good idea.

Perhaps this is going to be like the writings of the other music champions around Nottingham - if they can pontificate on music without taking the trouble to go to a gig then are they going to write about breakfasts without visiting a cafe?
