After the excitement (I say 'excitement', you can be the judge of that) of yesterday when I came up with an idea for a podcast about breakfasts, I have found that Audioboom isn't as straightforward as I had optimistically thought it would be. It is a free account but I have to pay to download the app which I am not prepared to do for the simple reason that it is a free podcast and I want to keep the costs down and not waste donation money on frivolity. Although I could just dismiss the thing and consign it to the box of abandoned ideas, I do kind of like the thought of recording an immediate food review before the meal has even settled in my stomach. I don't know where to start with finding another app for recording short podcasts on my phone and uploading them straight away, there must be one. If there isn't then could someone please invent one, if anyone in Hockley is reading this then please steal this idea - you don't usually wait for permission to do that so here it is. (Permission to use previous ideas not granted so how about some money or credit, mainly money, for Bad Movie Night, the Nottingham music cassette, and the guide to breakfasts?)

Using a quick and easy podcast would be a good thing for a lot of different uses to be honest, although I do spread myself a little thinly at times so maybe I shouldn't bother. I had thought of expanding on the #gigreport tweets I send out after I have been to see live music, I'd have the advantage over other DJs/podcasters/so-called local music champions because I actually go out and see bands rather than just listening to them on Soundcloud and acting as an armchair commentator. As I maintain several blogs and podcasts already it could become tiresome so I'll leave the gig idea to someone else.

Over the weekend I posted on Facebook as a response to several musicians who make a big social media fuss about being played on The Beat or NUSIC. One is a local radio show and one is a blog/podcast only listened to by the people who get played on it and their friends and families. This attitude is part of the reason why I quit doing the American radio show, apart from general apathy regarding sending me music. Nobody in Nottingham ever mentions (apart from a few 'favourites' on Twitter which is no good as nobody will see it, and some retweets which is more useful) that I play them on The Sunday Alternative - an influential podcast with a strong listenership all over the world. We had this on NottinghamLIVE too, sometimes artists didn't even advertise their appearance on a show that in its day was a big deal, and it was also strange how the fact that I gave nearly every Nottingham artist (apart from Jake Bugg, you can't blame me for him America) their first radio play in America. My Facebook post referred to the fact that I play music on merit and I don't need to be thanked for it, although some gratitude would be nice. My 'colleagues' in the local music champion world love music so much that they don't want to spoil it by seeing it live. I do play Nottingham artists on The Sunday Alternative (with a lot more quality control than others - maybe because I listen to everything myself rather than having a team of flunkys telling me what I should be pretending to like) but I recieve much more feedback from elsewhere. This is probably because musicians from other cities don't have an inbuilt sense of entitlement*.

*I don't include everyone in this of course, most Nottingham musicians are nice people.

To purchase my audio books, albums, and books, please visit my Shop & Donations page.
I am trying to raise the money to extend The Sunday Alternative, read about it here.
We also need to fund a pilot episode of a new music and cookery show, read about it here.

Every penny that I receive via the PayPal button will be used to fund future projects such as podcasts, short films, comedy sketches, documentaries, and more. They will be made available for free online and I will not personally benefit financially. All help is greatly appreciated.
