I have mentioned many times that I believe I have a curse which was put on me at an undetermined time, maybe before I was born. This curse has been lurking at every corner and has ensured that among other things my career will move along at such a slow pace that at 38 I am where I wanted to be when I was 21. Although I know deep down that most superstitions are bollocks, I do fear certain ones and do my best to avoid certain situation such as spilling salt or walking over three connected drain covers, in fact I stood up and turned round three times after I just wrote that it was bollocks (I didn’t really).

With this in mind I was of course wary of yesterday being Friday 13th. Expecting everything to go wrong today I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that nothing went wrong at all yesterday. Everything between waking up and going to my day job at Nottingham Crown Court to getting home again went smoothly, smoother than usual. I didn’t mention this to Mandi until after midnight because I was still too scared to admit it in case the house fell down or one of the pets died, but I celebrated at the stroke of midnight one of the few days in my whole life where nothing went wrong. Perhaps being cursed on an unlucky day causes a reaction and the forces can’t cope with it so my day goes well. In future I am going to schedule anything possible to Friday 13th and write off all the other days of the year. So if I ever have an interview for a job I really want or have to travel long distance I will do it on Friday 13th.

Today I went into town with Mandi for a birthday lunch (hers not mine, and yes I do have to buy two separate bloody cards) and a general wander round town. I was worried that my curse guardian would be gunning for me today, but thankfully she (it is a she, that’s not sexist) was keeping out of the way.

Later on we watched the final of Stars in Their Eyes and although I think Harry Hill has done a reasonable enough job of reviving a format it tends to be more about him in places but given that ITV seem to think he shits gold bullion he will most likely be given a second series. What they really need of course is TV Burp back, a chance for the whole country to gather round to enjoy all the quirks that they missed during the week. I don’t think a television programme will ever unite everybody in this way again, excluding Royal weddings/funerals of course. We have had a bit of a break from Frasier just lately and need to get back into it as we are getting close to the end and I have other things to move on to. Mandi recently bought me the first series DVD of Extras and we still have all three series of Bottom in shrink-wrap that she bought me for Christmas. As the DVD of series eleven of Frasier is proving hard to come by we are trying to watch it on YouTube but this isn’t proving an easy task because people keep uploading it in extreme close up. Looking on the bright side, at least we no longer have to watch things in ten minute chunks.
