I had planned to stay at home today and have a lie-in before recording this week's podcast as I was out late last night at a gig. Gary and I caught The Most Ugly Child at Jam Cafe supported by Blueshine Brothers, a band I hadn't seen before but really enjoyed. The venue wasn't as ridiculously packed as it sometimes can be so although we managed for only the second time in my entire Jam Cafe frequenting life to get a seat, we gave them up in favour of standing to watch the band. I first saw The Most Ugly Child in the same venue around the start of their life and they get better every time. It is nice to follow a band's progress in this way, especially a band consisting of such nice people that you have had the pleasure of working with on two occasions (live sessions on NottinghamLIVE and The Sound of Nottingham UK). After the gig we, along with a photographer friend Daniel, fine dined in Burger King before braving the night bus home. I don't know when I finally got home but I took Jack out for a walk before settling down with a cup of tea and a plate of toast. There was no way I could be bothered doing any work (I had already ticked off my daily task for Friday so I hadn't broken the chain, and today was technically Saturday and I had a podcast to record later) so I decided to read a couple of chapters of the book I'm currently reading, The Devil Rides Out by Paul O'Grady.

Given how messed up my sleeping pattern has been this week I was up around half past ten this morning, my music was all ready so once I had taken Jack out I was in theory all ready to go. Wherever she had been on her holiday, the curse guardian was back with catching up to do and did everything in her power to throw her entire collection of spanners in the works. Maybe that's where she went on her holiday, to a spanner convention and she stopped at the gift shop on the way out. My laptop survived the virus a few weeks ago but I think it is on borrowed time now. I can't get on the Internet any more, despite the WiFi connecting as soon as I switch it on, and I can't open Microsoft Word (which is why the font on this blog has changed because I use a specific one) so the recording studio programme is all it is good for at the moment. I say for the moment because after today's performance I fear that my laptop will soon breathe its last. The programme that records, Cool Edit, is still working okay but RealPlayer, the programme I use for the playlist, was not responding one little bit. A pop up informed me that a new version of RealPlayer was available and asked if I would like to update. I said no because no good ever came of changing something computer-wise. I used to use a different playlist maker but they changed it into something that no longer works, so the last thing I want to do is upgrade a trusted programme only to find that the 'improvement' is anything but.

Rather than recording it today and being organised, I will now have to record it tomorrow and put it straight out. So much for forward planning; welcome back curse guardian, you fucking bitch.
