Next time that I am full of
cold I have decided to not try and be brave and just give in to it and enjoy
being ill. I will stay at home and curl up on the sofa with my drugs
(medicinal), drinking Lemsip with a hot water bottle and a blanket in front of
the fire watching telly. My workaholic nature isn’t helpful in situations like
this and it is my insistence that life goes on that is probably responsible for
my colds lasting longer than most people’s do. it’s rather annoying that while
most major diseases are treatable if not curable, even A.I.D.S. isn’t the death
sentence it once was, yet once you have a cold you are fucked. I couldn’t sleep
properly last night due to my nostrils suddenly blocking up every time I tried
to lie down, so this morning I was like a zombie and managed to be late getting
to court. It turned out I didn’t miss much and would probably have given in and
phoned in sick if it wasn’t for the holiday next week.
This morning I made my daily
list of tasks to carry out in my home office, knowing full well that I wasn’t
going to do anything of the sort. Aside from the continuing ballache of
uploading chapters of the Nathan McKenzie
audio book, I have to find some time to record the podcast at some point this
weekend. To try and make things a little easier I want to hopefully record two
editions of The Sunday Alternative so that I am not
too pressured when we get back from holiday, especially as I am compering a gig
in Leicester on the Sunday night.
I fought my way through a day
in court and managed my usual hiding/looking busy manouveres that come into
play on a Friday with the reward of a good dosing up on medication and a long
sleep to look forward to, but I couldn’t go home straight away thanks to a
meeting I had agreed to earlier in the week. My mate Lee used to run Night Flight, a largely forgotten music magazine that I used
to occasionally write for, and he is bringing it back next year. The meeting
was to generally talk about how we’d do things and if I would be up for writing
for them again. To be honest, I think Night Flight
was made for my style of writing as they didn’t hold back from expressing an
honest opinion, even if it upset the applecart a bit. There’s already a few
really good writers on board so hopefully they’ll be able to make a good go of
it, it will certainly be refreshing to be able to write without bits being
taken out in case someone starts crying about it.
One pint of ale was all I had
and while we were talking I could feel it starting an argument with the cold
medication I had been filling myself with all day, to the point where the tram
ride away from town felt like a ride at Alton Towers. Once I had picked the dog
up from my dad’s and finally crossed the threshold into our house I was happy.
I felt better already and am writing this having just had dinner and am
preparing to take a cocktail of medicines and fight this cold. If tomorrow’s
blog doesn’t appear it is because I took too much.
