Although last night saw me taking a few tablets and a couple of mugs of Lemsip, I was looking forward to a full on dose up before bed including some ‘night time’ tablets I had bought (over the counter of course), which I was going to take before I took Jack for his night walk. This didn’t go entirely to plan as I sat down on the sofa to watch Never Mind The Buzzcocks (a series that has managed to ride out its dip in quality to return considerably better; not as good as the glory days with Mark ‘missing in action’ Lamarr but better than it has been for a while) followed by a few rounds of Family Guy with a bottle of ginger wine. Mandi had introduced ginger wine into the house (sold to me as ‘tastes like spicy sherry’) as a cold relief. To be honest it is very nice and tastes like cough medicine, which is something I have always loved, even as a kid. Although it doesn’t have particularly strong alcohol content, when you drink it on top of half a chemist shop it has the desired effect. I woke up on the sofa at some unknown time this morning, (it was light outside) and went to bed. Mandi was still in bed having chosen not to go into work today, (and why should she, weekends are voluntary and we are technically on holiday) and I remember at some point the dog barking, presumably at the postman. As it is Saturday the post will have been earlier than usual, but I wasn’t paying attention. Neither was I paying attention when Mandi said something about going shopping.

I eventually dragged my zombie body out of bed at four o’clock this afternoon, and walked downstairs to an empty house wondering how long ago it was that Mandi had said that she was going shopping, it could have been hours or it could have been five minutes. My eyes were glued together and I felt disorientated as I staggered around the house. Going outside to sit on the front step for a cigarette was a mistake as I felt dizzy when I had finished so had to sit for a minute on the sofa to stop the spinning feeling. A fried egg sandwich and a cup of tea settled my stomach and helped me to see a little more clearly and resign myself to the fact that I was not going to do anything of any use today as I had left things a little too late, this is what other people do when they’re poorly isn’t it?

My plan was to record this week’s podcast and fully upload the audio book but of course I couldn’t be bothered. I have sorted the music but will have to record it tomorrow. If I can claim one victory today it is that I have made some good progress with uploading the audio book. With it being Saturday I didn’t want to do much work so I left the computer on upstairs and kept popping up to keep uploading chapters.

Mandi has caught my cold and wasn’t feeling good later this evening. Today is our sixth anniversary, we spent it sneezing and coughing in an undignified mess in between downing medicine, a far cry from how a couple should spend their anniversary.
