I haven’t seen my friend Kate
since she appeared in the lead role of Hello Dolly,
which I was amazed to look up in my diaries and find that it happened in
November 2012. Where has the time gone? I’ve just got home from the Playhouse
where she was one of the cast of The Full Monty,
another brilliant performance from all involved. As I said yesterday, this was
a bit of a last minute writing gig for the paper and one that I couldn’t really
fit into my schedule, but I felt the need of a night at the theatre. Oskar
Productions is a new company but made up of the same people who staged the Saturday Night and Sunday Morning musical. The cast did an
amazing job and you’ll be able to read it in Friday’s edition of The Nottingham Evening Post (as I still call it), if you
can’t wait or don’t live in Nottingham then you can find it online from sometime
tomorrow. Once again it made me want to be in a musical, something I will of
course never do.
Mandi came with me so I was
able to treat her to a night out, if free tickets count as a treat. Maybe at
some point in our relationship I’ll take her somewhere that I’ve paid to get
in, but then again who wouldn’t do what I do? After the show we had a drink in
the bar and made congratulatory overtures to everyone, I would have stayed
longer but I had a review to knock out and I imagine the cast were probably too
knackered to stay out too long. Mandi suggested watching the film but she was
ready to drop when we got home so we’ll probably do it at the weekend. I was
going to suggest watching it before we saw the show but I’m glad we didn’t as
it was different enough to not be automatically distinguishable.
The rest of the week is going
to be a bit of a work pileup now though, with a podcast series to plan out for
recording soon and The Sunday Alternative
to record before the end of the week. Saturday is a work day of sorts as I’m
writing the review for Waterfront. It will be exhausting enough without the
writing commitment when I get home, so I’m going to attempt to write as much as
possible while I’m out so all I have to do at home is type it up and send it
in. I already know what bands I’m keenest to see so it shouldn’t be too
difficult. What will be difficult is compacting it all into a word counted
review.
