Another summer day, another Christmas recording. Today I recorded The Christmas Goblins by Charles Dickens which will be a paid download this year as a ‘double A-side’ with A Christmas Tree. At least that’s what I originally intended until I found a collection of short Christmas stories that I’d forgotten about so I’m considering putting together an album of about six individual stories instead. I almost hate myself for thinking about it as I have made work for myself when I already have too much going on for one person. However, I like the fact that I will be releasing the lesser known Christmas stories by Dickens as it will help to introduce them to a wider audience who maybe only know about A Christmas Carol. Before the end of November I am hoping to spend some time under the bonnet of my Bandcamp page to reorganise things a bit so that when new stuff is released it will be easy to find. There are three separate brand new audio books going to be available over December and January; the Dickens album, Whatever Happened To Nathan McKenzie?, and Bowie Day. In addition to that I will be re-releasing A Christmas Carol as an album rather than as four separate downloads, so it would help if everything was easy to find.

I’ve managed to mess up my weekly job list again but it won’t cause too much damage. Tomorrow was going to be set aside for organising my demo CDs for The Shoebox Collection but I’m taking Mandi to the theatre instead. The press launch of The Full Monty takes place tomorrow at the Nottingham Playhouse and I am reviewing it for the Nottingham Evening Post (as I still call it). It was a last minute gig for me as I only saw that it was available yesterday and an evening at the theatre on a weeknight seemed too good to miss. I’m especially glad to be doing the show as it is the same company that did the musical version of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning a couple of years ago, featuring my friend Kate who I’ve also seen playing the title role in Hello Dolly. I’m not overly keen on this theatrical trend to make a musical out of a non-musical film but I know it’s in capable hands. The show is based in New York rather than Sheffield and I don’t know whether or not that was the original story. Obviously I knew that the film was adapted from a play but I assumed it to be a British story, it’s very rare that a story adaptation goes in the other direction across the water. I just hope I can write 400 words about it when I get home.
