I
have arranged my work list into either a week or a fortnight set aside for a
specific job, hopefully this will be easier than trying to do one thing per
night as some jobs take longer than I first expected. In a few weeks time I
will have a seven day period in which to write and record the first series of The Shoebox Demos, which will probably have a different
title once it gets released. As tonight’s job was to sort out the CDs, I
decided not to bother as the time it will take is included in my job week. This
meant I had some free time today, so I spent a few hours making CDs of my
various radio/podcast recordings to put in my archive. I don’t have any of our NottinghamLIVE shows (apart from our one year anniversary
show and Mike Atkinson’s final show in which he took over the whole three
hours) as I lost them when my old laptop died. What I thankfully do have is
every live session recording, and I keep finding them on various USB sticks.
I’m basically going through a memory stick at a time and delete the files once
they’re on CD, actually I delete once I’ve checked the CD plays. As I’m doing
this I don’t see the point in buying any more sticks so once I have made room I
can move something from my computer as I’m scared to leave anything on there
after last time. All of my 2013/2014 editions of The Sunday
Alternative from when the show was on Trent Sound are intact but
there’s a hole in the 2012 run prior to my first resignation. They are on
Mixcloud so I can rescue them when I get time. The 2013 editions were on my
computer so I was relieved to be able to shift them onto a stick, I’m sure the
computer was relieved too.
Part
of my work plan (which runs to the end of the year) involves spending time
working on tidying up some scripts and find a filming availability. It struck
me how old some of these things were and how high my hopes had been back when I
originally had the ideas. I used to use my radio commitments as an excuse for
not moving forward with other projects, but now I have nothing to hide behind.
I wrote the first drafts of some of these things in 2007 and 2008, one in
particular looks quite dated now but there is room for updates. A few months
ago I was asked on Twitter about a film I was developing so I explained the
long delay and asked how he knew about it; he had read it as part of another
article on Wikipedia, blimey. The sad thing is that the finished scripts will
only need about two or three days dedicated to filming, yet I’ve been dragging
my heels all this time. I first wrote about these projects on MySpace for
crying out loud, but at least my ideas will see the light of day again which is
more than I can say for MySpace.
