If I’m perfectly honest I wasn’t really my usual bundle of pre-show energy this evening. Of course I can’t speak on behalf of my colleagues but it seemed as if we were going through the motions a little and lacked that spark. We drifted off a few times into conversational cul-de-sacs and we came up with a brilliant gag (that there is no point relaying here) off air, prompting Darren to question why we couldn’t come up with that sort of thing when the microphones are on.

Once again however, we were saved by the one thing that Trent Sound does best, live music in the studio. Jamie Moon came in to perform, someone I have seen play a few times including recently when he was on the Under The Tree bill with Josh Kemp, but have never previously met. Once he was in things picked up a little (for me at least) energy-wise, and with Paris and Matt in the live room too we suddenly had the one thing we’ll all miss, the hustle and bustle of making a live session happen. Although I positioned my camera to film his whole set, and Matt was on hand with the photography, I didn’t attempt to do too much in the way of filmed content as this is an area that will soon be unavailable to us. The live set was great of course, and I was happy to sit out while Cassia interviewed him in the broadcast room.

In the final part of the show we made the announcement that next week’s show will be the last one for a while. Without live music the show will have lost a unique selling point that no other radio station in Nottingham can boast, even BBC Radio Nottingham don’t do what we do with local music. We had the option to pre-record sessions at a studio in town, but we were told that we couldn’t pre-record interviews so all we would have was a recording of however many songs they chose to perform. If that it all we have to go with then we might as well just play four or five tracks one after the other and save us all the bother. For my part at least, the decision is nothing against Trent Sound as it is an important station for Nottingham, but the changes that are going to happen mean that we are not going to be able to produce a show that we are proud of.

There will I’m sure be more about this next week.
