Back in the days when Myspace was the number one social networking site, (it still would be if it hadn’t ruined itself), I used to turn the computer on and go round in order before starting work. My first port of call was Facebook, which took all of two minutes; someone threw a sheep at you, someone you hated at school but now find that you are ‘friends’ with has bitten you and turned you into a werewolf and asked that you bite everyone on your friends list and turn them into werewolves, some shit to do with farming, and out. Once that was over I would check my ‘proper’ emails and then go to Myspace, which was a site with activity. My blog, which began life over on Myspace, used to attract a load of comments from a group of people, and people did something worth commenting on in return (I don’t allow comments on this blog because of illiterate abuse from one person).

Nowadays, poor old Facebook is still playing second fiddle, this time to Twitter. However for a short while this afternoon there was no Twitter. I did what ‘they’ want you to do and spent a little bit longer on Facebook than usual. When I started the professional page for myself on Facebook, I had anticipated abandoning my personal page, but I do find the messaging bit rather useful for messages that don’t warrant waiting for Gmail to open up. Also, there are still people on my personal friends list that haven’t managed to join the page yet, and of course I don’t even know if you can operate a page if you delete your personal profile, something I have wanted to do since 2008. Once I realised that Twitter was out I got on with some work and actually found the lack of distraction rather advantageous.

To be honest I’m not spending a lot of time on any social site at the moment as I don’t have the time. When I briefly logged on to Twitter eventually, I found that people were tweeting about being able to tweet again, bizarre. Not one person (apparently) tweeted about going and doing something productive.
