Sunday 11th August

On my way to my dad's house for lunch this afternoon, I was saddened to see how the recession has had an effect on pub quiz prizes.

They scribbled over the original prize of a gallon of beer, and reduced the top prize to the tune of two pints. I'm no expert, but wouldn't it have been better to wash the gallon bit out and replace it so that you looked at the sign and didn't think anything of it? If I saw a sign advertising a quiz with six pints as the prize, I'd think that a reasonable prize. I would be put off entering this quiz now, as it wouldn't matter how well I did, I would still be thinking that I might be two pints better. Not that I would be there anyway, as I have a radio show to do on a Wednesday.

Actually, I had a radio show to do tonight too. I had a fantastic show lined up; Gary back to co-present with me, the usual amazing music choices all hand picked from my own collection, and a woman called Cassia. Cassia has just finished university and returned to Nottingham and wants to get into radio, and when I logged in to Trent Sound's twitter this morning as part of my Sunday morning show promotion I saw a message from her asking if she could come in and generally watch and learn, so I invited her along. She turned up while the two of us were stranded in the car park locked out of the studio. We have an entry pad system, and some plonker had also locked the main lock, so it didn't matter how many times we typed in the number, we were locked out. Not the best first impression, but slightly better than last time it happened when we had a band waiting in the car park with us.

We dropped Cassia off in town and Gary came round mine for a cup of tea, during which we talked about how hard it is to find the time to pursue your creative ideas when time is against you. Gary has the same over-active mind that I have, and has half finished ideas for things that he hasn't got round to yet. I told him some of my ideas for film projects, and showed him some illustrations that I did years ago for a children's cartoon series. Mandi came down from her Sunday afternoon kip, made us another drink, and the conversation turned to children's television, books, inventions, nostalgia, and general free-fall chattering. It was a brilliant evening that we wouldn't have had if we had done the show.
