Tonight brought the current run of The Random Sessions to an end with an enjoyable evening in the company of Blue Vulture performing a stripped down acoustic set. Although I have seen Bainy's other project Salisbury and Bain I have not seen Blue Vulture doing this and it worked a treat. Acoustic Vulture is about to become a side project with an appearance at The Kimberley Jam and from this performance I would recommend it highly. I am curating a stage at the festival so will probably miss it.
I seem to have making The Random Sessions for ages, and a glance at my diaries tells me that aside from the occasional week off I have done at least one episode a week since mid-January. A quick summer break is in order before I start again, I already have a wish list of people I want to work with on this series. It has been nice to work with a mixture of new and old acts, and looking over the people who have played it is pleasing to see how many women have taken part as the series predecessor The Random Saturday Sessions was a bit of a boys club (apart from Cibele, Lisa DeVille and Alexa Hawksworth joining in) so it was nice to get away from that feeling. Incidentally I am planning to bring Saturday Sessions back for a one-off during the summer, and intend to go to York again. There are still a few episodes left to broadcast, Blue Vulture obviously, and One In The Morning, We All Fall Silent, Kev Andrews and Cookie to be released. While I think about it, doing this setup with bands rather than just solo artists has also been a nice change, although I am mindful of the fact that the format probably suits solo acts more.
It has been on the cards for ages that I take this format elsewhere which might not happen this year but is something I will make the effort with in 2019. There was a plan for Nottingham regulars of Saturday Sessions to take a trip to London at one point a while ago but I grew so frustrated by the fact that nobody seemed able to scroll back up a Facebook messenger group and I got so fed up with repeating the date and travel times that I gave it up as a bad job. London is on my hit list, especially if I can turn it into a killing several birds with one stone trip by incorporating some filming and documentary interviews I have planned. This would be a good time to mention that everything I do is released online for free and to do this I rely on donations.
