The audio book of Whatever
Happened to Nathan McKenzie? is going to be a time consuming exercise even now
that I have finished recording it, as uploading more than fifty chapters (as
album tracks) will require patience. My first obstacle is the fact that
Bandcamp don’t allow uploads in MP3 format for some reason so I have to convert
them to WAV files first, the second obstacle being that one track takes forever
to upload and you can only do one at a time. At the moment the book is saved in
draft form, but don’t let that put you off visiting my Bandcamp page and
downloading some of my other audio books totally free of charge (unless you’re
feeling generous and want to pay anything you like, the more money that goes
into my PayPal account means more free content can be produced). As I still
have a lot of recording to do I am hoping that this final hurdle won’t ultimately
take too long to jump.
In other news, I have plans to
announce next week regarding my old Sherwood Radio shows. I will be making them
available to listen to again online with the view to accepting donations for
the fund. For the sake of nostalgia I listened to the first show I ever did and
it was terrible, I was nervous and had no ‘style’ as a broadcaster. In contrast
I listened to the last show I ever presented for the station and noticed a
marked difference in my ability, then listened to the 2010 Christmas special
which still gets an airing once a year. I think that this is my favourite show
of the lot as I had settled in by that point. For the radio enthusiast these
are an interesting artifact so although I cringed at the sound of my voice, I am
pleased with the way the show developed and it stood me in good stead for The
Sunday Alternative. Hopefully this might be a small curiosity for those who
haven’t followed my career from the start, and of course it might spur people
on to make a donation.
I’m getting frustrated with
the fact that on paper it only looks as if I have two more jobs to do before
the end of the year, but those two jobs are recording audio books. I’ll admit
that when I first started doing audio books it seemed like a fun way to express
my interest in the other Christmas stories by Charles Dickens and any money I made
was a bonus. The same was true of the audio books of my own works; Musings,
Christmas Musings, and First Draft, anything to bring in some money for the
fund. Although I have said that that I won’t do any more I probably would if
the project was right, but I am looking forward to new challenges.
My biggest worry now is the
fact that we are on series nine of Frasier so only having two more to go. We aren’t
going through them as fast as we previously had done but even so we are going
to need another show to binge on soon. When it comes to sitcoms we don’t always
agree so we will need to have to think long and hard about it. On an episode we
recently watched, Frasier took his family on a contrived plot visit to Boston,
the home of the show the character first appeared on, Cheers. An on screen
reunion of sorts was taking place in the form of a retirement party for Cliff
Clavin. Ted Danson (Sam Malone) and Woody Harrelson (Woody) had made previous
special guest appearances and they presumably couldn’t afford to have them
back. The reunion didn’t take place in Cheers due to Sam having a private party;
either that or they weren’t allowed to recreate the bar interior due to
copyright issues. It could have been worse; a British sitcom would have taken
the cast to a Spanish resort where the hotel hadn’t been built.
