Spare a thought for me, I was
up early this morning and at work; I have the hardest job in the world. It was
time to pay the price for my laziness in not recording The Sunday
Alternative earlier in the week, and my punishment was being awake
before noon on a Sunday. After taking Jack to the park for a run around my head
was cleared for the job in hand. Recording went smoothly and the show was
available before the metaphorical ink had dried. Half an hour later there had
been 100 hits, which is fantastic news as it shows that the podcast audience is
growing without the need to have an outlet on radio. I do miss live radio
though.
To refer back to yesterday’s blog;
I didn’t really bite the shop assistant in That’s Entertainment. I was simply
employing a punch line in light of the subject of my dog. It was a genuinely nice
thing to have happened as I have never been recognised by a member of the
public before. At gigs I often get asked if I’m Steve Oliver but that is mostly
from musicians I haven’t met but have supported in some way. I suppose my
default profile picture helps (it’s even used as my newspaper byline) as I am
mainly known for radio, podcasts, and audio books. Having said that, nobody has
heard my voice and recognised me so maybe that theory doesn’t hold water. It’s
pretty cool that my name means something to some people though, perhaps more so
in Nottingham.
It wasn’t all work today, we
went to my dad’s for Sunday lunch and spent the rest of the day doing nothing
apart from a bit of catch up with my emails as Sunday is a good day to do this
as nobody checks on a Sunday so you should be top of the inboxes on Monday
morning.
