The audio book recording is ticking along very nicely although I can’t see me being finished before the end of the week at this rate. I’m taking Friday off for a day at the seaside so won’t be doing anything work related at all. We could have gone on Saturday but I imagine it won’t be as busy if we go on a weekday, the schools haven’t broken up yet so although it won’t be quiet it won’t be crammed with people either. The trip was Mandi’s idea to get us away from work stress and we’re taking Jack with us to introduce him to the beach. I haven’t had a proper holiday for a few years now due to work so the idea of escaping, even if only for a day, is something I’m rather looking forward to.

With having a weekday off there’s a chance that I will have to finish the audio book over the weekend, unless I can finish it tomorrow which I doubt very much as it is more tiring than you imagine. I am supposed to be going to Splendour on Saturday but might have to forgo it in order to get this project finished as I don’t want the audio book recording to eat into next week. There are only a handful of bands I’m bothered about seeing but on the other hand I have a freebie so it would be a shame to waste it. Last year I had to fill in a questionnaire about who I was and why I needed a press pass (I wonder if the local newspaper had to fill in such an insulting form that might as well have just said ‘we don’t know who you are’ in red letters) but this year was different. This year I received the form but didn’t fill it in as I resented the questions, and a few weeks ago received confirmation that I had been approved for a press pass; I should coco! As much as I’d like to use it I have a lot of work to do and don’t feel as if I should take two days off, I might even have to work on Sunday to get the book finished.

Providing I can stick to the schedule I have made for myself then my to-do list should have quite a significant dent in it by the end of the year. I have already started planning next year’s workload but am hoping to create a bit more leisure time too. As a workaholic I’m not someone who finds it easy to switch off so we’ll probably do long weekends rather than a week or fortnight holiday, otherwise I’ll have my notebook out and will start thinking about getting back to work.
