My physical archive is taking shape now, the box of audio is now filling up with CDs, and all I need to do now is find the time to file them all in order. Last night I copied a great deal of NottinghamLIVE sessions from 2013 and was astounded at the range of names on display, and I still haven’t finished doing them. Once they’re all done and collected in order they will make an interesting time capsule of the Nottingham music scene. When I die my archive will be donated to a suitable new home, be it a library or a University or some kind of archiving service. It is my hope that at least some of the names will have lived on after me, maybe still making music. Whether performing in front of thousands at the Arena or happily plugging away at an open mic night, I’m sure that some of them will still mean something.

I’ve said before how proud I am (and I hope Darren and Cassia are too) of what we achieved in a year of presenting NottinghamLIVE. Our show, without trying to be boastful, was the best thing that the Nottingham music scene had in terms of the support and coverage we gave to the musicians of this city. (I’m wondering if a plaque should be put up outside the old Trent Sound building). Looking at the names on the discs and listening back to them makes me pleased to have been involved. The spectrum of guests and the fact that it happened live in the studio brought a lot of happy memories back. Many of the guests were doing their first radio session, some were returning friends of the show, some have gone on to bigger and better things, and sadly some have split up or disappeared off the radar. Prefontaine are sadly no more, and the brilliant Breadchasers did their last radio session for us in what appeared from the outside looking in to be quite a messy breakup. Nick Aslam and The Most Ugly Child have signed to minor indie labels in Nottingham and one of guests, St Raymond, should report to Royal Mail that his thank you card to us got lost in the post.

Among the discs are various editions of The Sunday Alternative, the sessions for The Sound of Nottingham UK, and various interviews, podcasts, and audio books. I suppose I should write some notes about each thing when I file them correctly. There are things that might have been forgotten about; it seems like years ago that I briefly did a podcast for The Maze, but it was only last year. My Sherwood Radio show started in 2010, where is the time going? It will soon be Christmas, and in even better news, Christmas will soon be over.
