Although I have done this with great reluctance, I have been forced to restructure my vision for a video version of The Sunday Alternative. The original idea (named The Pod) was drafted in 2007 and as I have said before you couldn’t pitch an online video series back then as nobody understood what you were on about. While I waited for the rest of the world to catch up with me I started working in radio among other things so the idea was put to one side. I have realised that the series would have been too expensive for a start, but also with the regular structure it would have been too stressful to gather bands up for one day of filming. Not only that but I still haven’t found a suitable venue, the main problem being that Nottingham live music venues don’t have that new fangled electronic mailing system that computers have these days and so it is impossible to contact them most of the time.

The original plan was to have four or five bands together to perform and be interviewed with the show looking a tiny bit like Later With Jools Holland (but with all decent bands and not just one good act per series), but instead it is going to focus on one band/artist at a time and stage it as a live session video that will showcase the band. In a way this might be better for the band as the focus will be on them alone, but I still feel as if I have let myself down a little. On a positive note this means that I can start the project a lot sooner, as I will no longer be waiting on several pieces of the jigsaw being chased before they can be put together. I have spoken to Oliver about it and he is in agreement so it is pretty much all systems go. Just because the new way will be a lot cheaper, it doesn’t mean that we don’t need your support. The PayPal button above this blog is for your benefit; I will be using the money to finance projects like this that will be made available free of charge. It isn’t a lot to ask really, think of it as much better value than the TV licence.
