Having sent my resignation
email in the week, I had not received a reply so I wasn’t sure how my news had
gone down. It did worry me that I had burned my bridges with the radio station
and that there might have been very little point in recording this week’s
edition of The Sound of Nottingham UK.
(That’s the news I have been
cagey about this week by the way, I have quit doing my American radio show).
I had promised to send a show
for this weekend, and also promised that I would not be ‘phoning in’ my final
edition. With the email I addressed Marshall Miles, the owner of Robin Hood
Radio, and told him that it had been an honour and a privilege to have done the
show and expressed my gratitude for the opportunity. Thankfully I received an
email back complementing the show and thanking me for my work, which was a massive
relief.
Having spent so long recording
the show (I wanted the last one to be perfect) and the podcast I also wrote the
press release that was released today. By the end of it I couldn’t be arsed
recording The Sunday Alternative because I was
exhausted, (I know it isn’t saving lives – although it might be for all I know –
or digging roads, but radio is a very tiring business), and settled down on the
sofa with a pizza and some wine to watch the Eastenders
omnibus. I hadn’t even realised before now that it isn’t shown on Sunday
afternoon anymore.
After publishing my statement
about the end of the show, I turned off the computer and left the house without
my phone. My plans for today had skewed a little as I didn’t wake up until half
eleven this morning. After walking Jack and having a shower I headed out eating
my breakfast on the move. I had intended to catch as much of the mini-fest at
The Lion before going home to eat and go to town for an album launch.
Unfortunately my tiredness
from making radio combined with a few daytime beers meant that my arrival home
at teatime made me crash and burn. Just walking to the corner shop felt as if I
was taking on Everest so I opted for the far more rock and roll end to a
Saturday, we watched Cats on DVD.
Jack wasn’t keen of course.
