My American radio show
broadcasts at 11pm Fridays their time, which translates as 4am Saturday morning
over here, (I assume that my UK listeners tune in for the Sunday repeat at 6pm
UK time). I always try to have the show sent over the water by around 8pm UK
time purely as a courtesy so they have time to listen to it and load it into
their system, that doesn’t always go to plan but they do at least have a few
hours with it in their possession before broadcast. Friday teatime always seems
to catch me by surprise, which is a stupid situation for me to be in as I have
all week to make an hour long show, (58 minutes technically) and send it. I
usually like to gather up the music the night before, chosen from what has been
sent to me and personal choices that I like, old or new. Ideally I like to
record the show on a Thursday because that is more relaxing for me as I have
the comfort of being able to fuck up without time catching up with me and
sending me into a panic. Very soon, (very soon, watch this space), The Sound Of Nottingham UK will be my only radio show commitment
so I won’t be distracted by having to do three hours work on a Wednesday night
and two hours work on a Sunday afternoon (working on a Sunday – trooper). I’ve
just given a massive clue there so there’s really no need to watch this space
now as Darren and I have decided to quit while we’re ahead with NottinghamLIVE and I am doing the last edition of The Sunday Alternative (for Trent Sound) this coming Sunday.
This evening (I am writing
this while recording the USA show, who said men can’t multi-task?) I am
supposed to be going to see Gary and Craig (Barwell, formerly of Prefontaine
and good friends) to discuss comedy ideas as Craig is a standup comedian and
comedy writer too. I have so far sent him three messages giving different times
that I will be ready to go round his house. Luckily, I haven’t fucked up the
recording yet. There’s still time I suppose.
