Due to the horrors of Saturday
late afternoon shopping I missed out on the start of last night’s show at
Rescue Rooms. Harleighblu was headlining and I was on the guest list (I love my
job) as a reviewer. I was disappointed to have missed the chance to see Joy
Mumford again, who opened the show as a last minute addition to the bill, but I
arrived just as Rob Green was starting an acoustic set. As his name doesn’t
appear in my diary, and I have only just started adding labels to my blog, I
can’t say for sure if I’ve seen him before or not, he certainly rings a bell
but then again I couldn’t swear to it. The last time I saw Harleighblu was at
Nottingham Rocks last year, and since then she’s been on the up, (nice to see
someone get national recognition due to 100% talent instead of a fluke of luck
and good management – saying no names) so this might be the last time a place
like Rescue Rooms is able to accommodate her. Having said that, the room wasn’t
full although there was a respectable crowd for her, and it was nice to see
that it wasn’t the regular ‘Nottingham music scene’ faces in attendance (apart
from me of course).
Even though it wasn’t a late
night, (10pm curfew to make room for a discotheque) I still felt a little bit
groggy this morning when I woke up for work (working on a Sunday, I am a
trooper) and took a while to wake up. For the last few weeks I have cut it fine
as far as timekeeping is concerned, something I hate doing as I like to get in
and gather my thoughts before anyone arrives. I was the first one there, with
Paris arriving just after. My guests this week was Wild Man of Europe, a band I
had listened to quite a lot recently but didn’t really know a lot about. My
early arrival gave me time to do my homework so that I didn’t fuck up the
interview section and end up looking foolish.
It’s quite sad that we won’t
be able to host live music sessions on Trent Sound any more after this month,
as it is something that makes the station unique in Nottingham. Across the
board we have quite a list of past guests that most radio stations would kill
for, and to have to do them as pre-records at another studio is going to tear
the heart out of the station and seriously deprive Nottingham (and the world,
it is the Internet after all) of a great provider of local music.
Dean Jackson is jumping for
joy.
