The first NottinghamLIVE
of the New Year, and a new era dawns over Nottingham’s most influential radio
show. A more professional, smoothly run operation from the three of us is our
new year’s resolution. It lasted less than fifteen minutes which was probably a
lot longer than any of our listeners had bets on. We haven’t yet broken our run
of live guests on the show, although with the future of Trent Sound in a little
jeopardy, that chain may be about to break so we should make the most of it
while we can. January is taken care of at least, which is going to be a strong
old month musically. During yesterday’s show I emailed Aja Ireland about coming
on next week’s show and she said yes almost immediately, which plugs the gap
left by Priory Jones and the Mission (throat infection).
Joyride and Deathray have been
on our wish list since a few months ago when they sent a brilliantly sarcastic
email listing possible reasons why we hadn’t replied to the first email that
they had sent out. Despite the fact that I couldn’t remember receiving an email
from them in the first place, I replied to them in the spirit that they
intended and immediately played them on The Sound of Nottingham UK,
so from pretending to be pissed off at being ignored they suddenly get played
in America. That’s how to play it.
Another way to impress is to
glean a little detail from my website/blog and use it to your advantage. That
is what Electric Baths did when they sent me a demo CD. Receiving a CD in the
post is a novelty enough these days, although it is a far better way to get
noticed simply because of that rarity. When you enclose a Joker from a deck of
cards you can be guaranteed my attention, of course it helps if your CD is
worth listening to. Thankfully it was, and now (because I received the CD a
little too late for NottinghamLIVE)
one of the tracks will be played on The Sound of Nottingham UK
this weekend.
