Friday 23rd August

I was up most of the night writing about The Velvet Underground And Nico for Steve’s LP Box, and decided that I am only going for four editions this time around. It is an even number and as it takes up a fair amount of time, I am keen to draw the line under it and free myself up to start on the next project. There will be a Christmas edition as last year, which I have started writing, (in the best tradition of festive programmes, I am working on it in August), and I might return to it at some point in the future as it is something I enjoy doing. When I did the second series earlier this year I uploaded the whole lot at once, but this time I will stagger the release and probably drop one a week in the four weeks leading up to the Christmas one.

Although we are past the halfway point of the year, I always think of August as the time to take stock of what needs to be done before the end of the year. Maybe it’s because my birthday is in a few days and that is when I take a look at myself and see how far I’ve come since the beginning of the year. It could also be that I still associate August with the school holidays and September as the start of a brand new school year.

Things have been a bit slower than I would have liked, but with three radio shows a week to hold down I don’t think I have done too badly. As I’ve said before, I want to ideally get all of the audio projects out of the way this year and crack on with film making in 2014. There are also several rather exciting prospects looking like happening next year, and I want to be able to concentrate on them. The next project is already in the writing stage, and I have to record some more Christmas audio books to follow up from my version of A Christmas Carol last year.

I said to my girlfriend Mandi today that I seem to have finally stopped having ideas. This could be seen as a bad thing but it isn’t, as it means I can concentrate on the projects that are on my to-do list and not worry about the possibility of never completing it. Sometimes I look at what needs doing and it feels like I’m pissing in the wind to some extent. I have stuff going on this year that didn’t originally feature on the list, and although I’m glad to always have something to do I do feel a certain amount of pressure building up.

Still, three day weekend coming right up.
