Today was one of those days
when it’s work work work, and I was exhausted by the time it was over. Aside
from recording this weekend’s American show, which I managed to do in one take,
I managed to write the third edition in the new series of Steve’s LP Box.
I’m doing another series of six, followed by a Christmas special. After one
more series I think I’ll call an end to this particular show while I still
enjoy doing it. The trouble is that I have far too many albums to choose from
and as such could either keep doing the series until I have done then all, or
give it up and be able to concentrate on other things. I might just keep doing
Christmas specials; this year I’ll be doing Elvis’ Christmas Album,
as I can do these without the pressure of a deadline. In the glorious tradition
of recording Christmas stuff, I’ll be doing it during the summer. Knocking LP Box on the head makes room for the next series of
podcasts relating to my collection of CDs sent in over the years for my
consideration, I mentioned it here. Part of me wants to continue doing Covermount too, especially as there are a lot that I haven’t
done yet and at the moment the series is on an extended hiatus.
As it stands I have written
three editions; Dare by The Human League, Ten by Pearl Jam, and Presenting The Fabulous
Ronettes by The Ronettes. I have yet to do the other three but am
unsure of them at the moment because I had an idea creep in and might make a
change to my planned ones. They don’t take long to write if I’m honest, they
aren’t in-depth documentaries after all, but just something I do out of love.
The podcast originated on Trent Sound as the third pre-recorded hour of The Sunday Alternative before I resigned from the station,
which seems to be the wrong way round. People do podcasts with a plan to
eventually get on the radio, so as I’m already on the radio. I’ve said before
how lucky I am to have landed in a world of radio that gives me full creative
control over what I play, and podcasts are a step up from that. Even though I
work in radio, I like the fact that I can have an idea and run away to my
office studio and get working on it. Even within Trent Sound I wouldn’t be able
to get everything I think of on to the air, unless I interfered with The Sunday Alternative, which I don’t want to do as I think
I finally have the perfect show going out every week.
