I am currently reading Miracle On Regent Street by Ali Harris.
This is a new book, although it confused me at first to see 1997 as the publication date. It didn't register as strange until Facebook was mentioned, as in 1997 there was barely an Internet, so Facebook was not even an idea scrawled on the back of Mark Zuckerberg's cigarette packet. In fact, we hadn't even joined Myspace in 1997, I doubt we had even registered with Friends Reunited.
Anyway, I read most of the book on my journey home yesterday, and have a little bit of it yet to go. However, I don't think it too early on to fully recommend this book to anyway, to men and women. While I'm reading it I am picturing it, it helps that I know the locations, and imagining the film version. I know I'll cry at the end, as there has already been one 'eye-swell point' and I'm only on page 332 of a book that finishes on page 486. If Miracle On Regent Street doesn't result in a queue of people waiting in turn to get on their knees and beg Ali Harris for the film rights then there is no justice in the world.
In every house there lives the collection of Christmas films that come out at this time of year, and guarantee tears. Hopefully this book will be turned into one of them. Miracle On Regent Street deserves a place alongside It's A Wonderful Life in the genre of Christmas feelgood tearjerker movies.
Ali Harris, you can quote me on that!
