Today was one of those days
where you get the satisfaction of crossing out every single task on your daily
to-do list, despite such obstacles of everyday life trying to get in the way. To
be perfectly honest there were only four things on today’s list so I shouldn’t
really be sat leaning back on my chair with my trilby hat cocked to a jaunty
angle. As we’re going away tomorrow for a few days break I wanted to catch up
so that I didn’t have a lot to worry about while I’m away.
If I really had put my mind to
it I could have blasted this list out of the water in one sitting but it wasn’t
to be. I didn’t wake up until half past twelve (I’m on holiday so don’t feeling
in the least bit guilty about that) and couldn’t get motivated straight away. Once
I had properly woken up, by which I mean I had drank a cup of tea and had my
first cigarette of the day, I started some rudimentary email replying and some
general admin. Mandi made breakfast which he sat down for at around two o’clock,
hey we’re on holiday. I’m not very good at holidays if I’m honest, I can’t relax
and want to be working, even if I’m writing something or planning a project. If
I was made of different stuff I would have relished the idea of a day spent
doing absolutely nothing but lazing around in front of the television or
watching DVDs (technically still in front of the television but you know what I
mean) but I had a few loose ends to tie up before tomorrow so I was determined
to get through them unscathed.
The biggest job of the day was
to finally send the audio book of Whatever Happened to
Nathan McKenzie into the World Wide Web for people to download. All I
basically had to do was publish the newsletter and do a bit of a tweeting blast
as I had completed the Bandcamp page in the early hours of this morning. Once I’m
back home I will try and organise some proper advertising but I can’t be arsed
now and Mandi would go ape-shit if I started trying to do publicity while on a
short break, she never got over me leaving a Saturday lunch date to go to the
BBC for a radio interview a few years ago. Honestly, you try to put career
first and you’re painted as a heartless monster.
I posted another newsletter
regarding the unveiling of my Sherwood Radio archive and the fact that all of
my shows are now available to listen to once again (hopefully in return for a
donation towards further free content) and re-live the embarrassment of my
terrible early days in radio.
Aside from those two rather
big things, the other items on my list were a piece of cake; my usual email to
the artists and management types that I have featured on this week’s podcast
and to write my blog up to date before going away (not technically work but
something I enjoy doing). The blog will continue while I’m on the mini-break
depending on hotel WiFi.
