I have decided to not go ahead
with recording an audio book version of Bowie Day for
now. It occurred to me that I might be overdoing it with audio book releases
and that it might take attention away from the book version and could
potentially affect sales. For this reason, Bowie Day will
be released on January 8th as already planned and I might record an
audio version of it for Christmas 2015 because I won’t be doing any more
Dickens Christmas stories next year. This means that my only job left for this
year is the recording of A Dickens Christmas
Collection and then I can take my foot off the pedal and relax. By
relax I actually mean get cracking with the new projects I intend to undertake
next year, which is starting to look like a busy one. I have a lot of
unfulfilled ambitions to tackle so I will be working like a dog to try and make
a dent in my to-do list.
Tonight I am acting as compere
at a gig in Leicester (which I’ll report on in tomorrow’s blog) so time has
been of the essence today. Mandi woke me up at midday which freaked me out
because I knew I still had to record The Sunday Alternative
before going to lunch at my dad’s. The music was all prepared and it is all
done in one take in half an hour so I didn’t panic too much and recorded the
whole thing and uploaded it before I’d even got dressed. As time was catching
up with me by the time it was on the Internet Archive I decided to do half a
job so embedded the player on the blog and saved it in draft form to come back
to later on. All I had to do once I was home was publish it and then leave the
house. It was pleasing to see that I gained ten hits in the time it took
between publishing and switching the computer off so hopefully that bodes well.
It would be nice to record the
podcast in advance so that I can relax a bit at the weekend rather than wake up
on Sunday in a mad panic because I need to
record it at some point. This would free up my Saturday and help me to
reclaim Sunday and turn it back to the day of rest that it is meant to be.
After all, as I’m self-employed I don’t get extra money for working at the
weekend, in fact technically I don’t get paid for the podcast so this makes me
even more of a hero, unless you want to make a donation via the PayPal button
of course. If you don’t think that I personally am worth it, then take comfort
in the fact that I won’t get the donation money personally but will spend it on
creating new ideas and giving them away for free. Think of it as a better,
fairer version of the TV licence.
