Glee comedy club is one of the places I have never had a problem with, to follow on from my blog of a few days ago. The staff are all brilliant and I have never had to argue my way in thanks to a guest list mishap. Although they don’t have a press area, (a concept that Nottingham has totally failed in) but the seating is laid out cabaret style with two chairs to a table, enabling reviewers to get their pad and pen out in comfort. Glee is also the easiest going place regarding backstage access to meet the performers. Not that I had chance to last night as Tom Stade was immediately out and mingling as soon as the show was over. I didn’t stop and chat as he was selling CDs and DVDs out of a rucksack (the DIY approach, respect) although it was cool that he remembered me from a previous gig that I was reviewing. For some reason I thought I had interviewed him a few years ago but I have no record of it and if it isn’t in a notebook, diary, or blog then it didn’t happen.

My lack of tolerance to drinking once again combined with a day in court to totally fuck me up when it came to writing my review. I watched Eastenders on my laptop as I didn’t get home in time for the BBC3 showing, (assuming they still do that, they didn’t on Tuesday), and cooked my dinner before I got down to work. The actual writing was easy enough as I had written plenty of notes, but I fell asleep on the sofa halfway through typing it up. It was half past five when I woke up, the laptop battery had drained and Jack was curled up next to me fast asleep. Because of the way I had slept, my body wasn’t working properly as I had severe pins and needles down one side of my body. Eventually I recovered enough to climb the two flights of stairs up to my office so I could plug the laptop in before tidying up the review and emailing it in.

As I was due in court again at half past nine, I decided to have a rare early morning and go crazy by turning up to work on time. The last thing I dared to do was go back to bed for an hour or so because I didn’t trust myself not to oversleep, I didn’t even have the bottle to get too comfortable on the sofa. Jack must have wondered if he was having his night walk late or his morning walk early, but the early morning air did the trick and woke me up as did the shower I had to warm me up on my return. It felt good to have had a proper night of sleep for a change, as I have been working too hard and for too long just lately. I am still a bit behind with my work and the carefully planned work schedule turned out to be a big waste of time. I have written a new list containing the bare minimum that needs to be done before the end of the year and it no longer looks like such a daunting task.
