Although I have quite a hefty
work schedule at the moment, I have decided to blow the cobwebs off a blog I started
earlier this year. I started writing the album reviews on IMHO
in order to give totally impartial opinions without having to toe any lines. Not
that I do toe the line of course but this way none of my un-toed lines can be
removed or doctored as usually happens. Today I have written about the new Greatest Hits collection from The Levellers which I received
an advance copy of last week (I love my job), and I have new EPs by The Spangle
Corps and One Girl One Boy to write about in the next few days. I am aware that
my opinion isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and that certain artists (particularly
in Nottingham) deliberately don’t send me stuff in advance, but in future this
will just spur me on to track it down and review it anyway. If you don’t want a
bad album review, don’t make a bad album, a simple enough motto that I’m thinking
of printing on tea towels.
I was quite pleased with the
readership of IMHO and knew that the idea had
legs; unfortunately it just became a victim of my somewhat heavy work schedule.
Not that I am lazing around at the moment, I still have a long way to go until
I’m able to take my foot off the pedal but I don’t want to leave it to rot with
so many other ideas. The Moonage Daydream
podcast was another casualty of time that I will hopefully be able to devote
some time to next year when the dust has settled and I can move things around
better. Having a scheduled list of projects hasn’t been as successful as I’d
have liked but I hope that by the end of next week I will be back on track. This
week will be a write off as far as catching up is concerned because I’m going
to see Ant and Dec tonight to review for the paper, I’m at a gig on Wednesday
(for pleasure although I will write about it on the blog) and doing another
review on Friday night. As such I have promised Mandi that I will not work on
Saturday, which leaves Thursday night to record this week’s Sunday Alternative podcast. I might release it on Thursday
to celebrate the birthday, even more fittingly I should release it at 9pm
exactly, the start time of the original run of radio shows. Then on Sunday I
will simply re-release it, I had intended to record two episodes this week so
there was a bonus edition but time simply wouldn’t allow it, as even I need to sleep
sometimes.
