I was up reasonably early yesterday to do the publicity tweeting for The Sunday Alternative and was pleased and flattered to see that half an hour later I was already on fifty hits. The listening figures have astounded me especially as I was in two minds about it being worth doing the podcast. If it had failed it would have damaged the Sunday Alternative name and lost currency within the business but the fact that the figures are so good means that there is life in it yet. On Saturday I was supposed to be filming some sessions but it would appear that every single music venue, studio, and performance space in Nottingham was being used, that is the only explanation for the lack of response that once again alerts me to the fact that Nottingham isn’t always as proactive as it would like to portray itself. Given that most of the music I am sent is from London and America then I am tempted to give Nottingham up as a bad job. The Sunday Alternative is on one hand my ticket to a foothold in the capital; on the other hand it would effectively mean starting again from scratch. I’ve worked very hard to become a part of the Nottingham music scene and am glad to have gained the trust of a healthy amount of musicians. I am trying to find a radio station to take on the show but it has to be on my own terms; live music in the studio, 100% control over what songs I play, the right to film sessions and my own copyright on all appropriate material. When I was on Trent Sound I used to ask live music guests to sign a disclaimer dividing ownership of the recordings equally between the artist and myself so I was allowed to use them on various online profiles (but not earn money from them) and the guest could do the same.

At the moment I am happy to do it as a podcast as it keeps my hand in as my only outlet now I am no longer on the radio. If everyone who listens takes the trouble to make a small donation via the PayPal button then all the better.
