I took the day off from Crown
Court shenanigans yesterday in order to blast through some work and ended up
making pretty good progress on The Woolworths Related Documentary (working
title) by shutting myself in my office and getting on with it. The Sunday
Alternative will have to wait until Sunday morning as we went out for the day
today to Matlock Bath.
We’ve only ever been to
Matlock Bath out of season before, so going during a summer Bank Holiday
weekend was a bit of a culture shock to us both. Everything being open and
crowds of people aren’t things we associate with the place and I’m not sure if I
really enjoyed it as much as usual. Whitby is the same for me; I can only go
there in the middle of winter as I love the place when it is cold and dark with
the smell of coal fires in the air. Matlock today had too many people, and they
were the worst kind of people too, the slow people. Years ago there used to be
a Facebook group called ‘I want to punch slow moving people in the back of the
head’, and I know exactly what the group’s founder meant.
At one point we discussed
taking Jack with us, but as soon as we got there we realised we had done the
right thing in leaving him behind (looked after, we don’t just leave him there
to fend for himself). Not only was the town being visited by bikers but also
there were a lot of very well behaved dogs being taken out. Jack would have
been a nightmare barking at dogs and motorbikes and this would make Mandi and
me look like bad dog owners. We are not bad dog owners but it takes too long to
explain that Jack is a rescue dog and as such we have no idea what sort of life
he has been subjected to in the past. He barks as a defence
mechanism, although in the case of pigeons I assume he just doesn’t like them,
and who can blame him?
