I spent ages trying to open a Kickstarter account in order to set up a crowd funding campaign for The Sunday Alternative documentary, then right at the very end it wants me to do something ridiculous and sends me right back to the beginning. This was annoying and put me off wanting to try again, I wasn’t even going to go down the Kickstarter route but thought it might give a boost to some of my upcoming projects. Just as I was about to give up on the idea I decided to try and find another crowd funding website, I assumed there was at least one, although Kickstarter is probably the best known as that’s the one that people mention. A quick search led me to the site Indie Go-Go. I set up the account initially a while ago but only just got round to making the campaign public today as I needed to make a video at Trent Towers, which I did on Sunday.

The setting up on IGG was just as easy although still came with annoyances. This time there was an issue with my PayPal account, which I had disconnected from my old bank account when I closed it last year. My new bank account wasn’t connected so as far as everyone is concerned the PayPal account was unverified. All I had to do was fill in a few gaps on PayPal’s site and gain verification, which proved to be a lot easier said than done. What happens is the they put a penny in your bank account and you need to check your statement for a reference number, that reference number is what you need to verify your PayPal account. I’m sure everyone knows this, but I’d forgotten all about this seeing as my last bank account was over twenty years old and I’ve been using the same PayPal account since I don’t know when. I can’t remember it being such rigmarole the last time I did this, and given how popular websites like to over-complicate an easy system it probably wasn’t.

Anyway, the campaign to raise money to make a documentary about The Sunday Alternative is here.
