After the wake a few of us
went to a local pub to have a carvery, partly to make sure that Granddad ate
properly with everything that was going on. I’ve never lost someone that close
to me before and can’t imagine how lost he must be feeling, especially as they
had known each other for seventy two years. It must have been a touch
overwhelming yesterday, but I suppose it was better for him to be surrounded by
people who love him. Once it was all over, Jack and Kelly and I watched a catch-up
episode of Coronation Street (something I haven’t
seen in years so made very little sense to me) and Splash.
We were all pretty knackered after a long day, I had to travel and they had
work, so I was in bed for ten o’clock and certainly didn’t want to get up this
morning.
My sister Mary picked me up
and drove me to the train station, and I had a coffee with her and my dad
before my train left. It was nice to spend time with her and have promised to
keep in touch, especially as I have done very little Uncle-ing with my three
nephews.
The journey back to Nottingham
was pretty uneventful, I alternated between sleep and reading Down And Out in Paris and London. It was four o’clock when I
arrived back in Nottingham, and had already arranged to not take part in
tonight’s NottinghamLIVE. Mandi didn’t come with
me to the funeral so I haven’t seen her since Monday morning. I didn’t think it
fair for me to have to dash off to do a radio show after all that. Listening to
the second hour of the show, (didn’t catch the first hour due to eating,
showering, dog walking and such tasks) they seemed to be coping well enough
without me and delivered a good show with a live set from Samuel P that sounded
brilliant.
